Algebraic fractions and half-term homework

This week we've covered algebraic fractions.  Here's the golden rules:

  • Think about how to deal with normal fractions and do the same thing.  For example, to add we need a common denominator.  To multiply, it helps to cross cancel first.
  • Only cancel common factors! Never cross out a like term on the top and bottom unless it is a factor.
  • It normally helps to factorise, so you can identify any factors that can be cancelled.

If you want to do some more practice, try this. Skip past the fraction section to see algebraic fractions.

For homework, please complete the GCSE paper by Monday 4th November.  You must bring it to the lesson on the 4th.
